A farmer’s pot is a simple & hearty dish with meat & vegetables in a spicy sauce, a real comfort food from the country cuisine.

In today’s post, I’ll show you a recipe for a rustic farmer’s pot with ground meat, potatoes, peppers & zucchinis. Have fun cooking!

Farmer’s Pot with Ground Meat

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 750 grams waxy potatoes
  • 500 ground meat (half beef/half pork)
  • 2 bell peppers
  • 2 zucchinis
  • 600 milliliters vegetable stock
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 1 – 2 clove(s) garlic
  • A teaspoon each of oregano, thyme, sweet paprika powder & spicy paprika powder
  • Salt & pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Parsley for garnishing

  • Large pan or pot for farmer’s pot

Peel potatoes & cut into cubes that are not too small. Deseed bell peppers & cut into bite-sized pieces. Halve the zucchinis lengthways and also cut into bite-sized pieces. Peel onion & garlic & chop finely.

Heat up a large pan or pot adding a dash oil, add onions & garlic to the pan & sweat over medium heat for about 2 – 3 minutes until glassy, stirring occasionally. Next add 500 grams ground meat to the pan & brown for another 3 – 4 minutes until crumbly, while stirring from time to time.




If that’s done season the meat with a teaspoon each of oregano, thyme, sweet paprika powder & spicy paprika powder, also add the potatoes to the pan & then stir together everything until well mixed. Next, pour in 600 milliliters vegetable stock as well as a can chopped tomatoes, bring to a boil & allow to simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 15 minutes it’s time to add zucchinis & bell peppers to the pan & allow to gently simmer for another 5 minutes until the potatoes are done. Finally season the farmer’s pot with salt & pepper to taste & remove from heat. Spread farmer’s pot on deep plates & serve garnished with finely chopped parsley. Have fun cooking!
