- 100 grams of wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- Hot water
- 1 – 1½ liters of oil for frying
- Maize flour to dust the worktop
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- A mixing bowl
- Sieve
- Cereal bowl
- Rolling pin
- Pot or wok to fry the taco shells
- 2 kitchen spatulas
- Kitchen paper
Instructions for the homemade Taco Shells:
Pour 200 grams of corn flour & 100 grams of wheat flour through a sieve into a mixing bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of salt & 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, also pour in some hot water and start kneading with your hands. If the dough is too dry, add more hot water and continue kneading until you have a smooth dough that is somewhat reminiscent of the consistency of playdough.
Then use a knife to cut the dough into 10 pieces of approximately the same size (or weigh 10 pieces of ~50 grams each). Form each piece of dough between your palms into small balls, sprinkle the work surface with a little corn flour and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough balls very thinly and flatly into round dough flats.
Cut out the dough with a cereal bowl so that we get evenly round dough circles.
Prick the dough circles several times with a fork, then heat 1 – 1½ liters of oil for deep-frying (simply add a small piece of leftover dough to the oil; as soon as it starts to bubble, the oil is hot enough).
Carefully place the prepared dough flatbreads into the hot oil as soon as they float to the surface, carefully turn them once with the help of 2 spatulas and then fold up 2 opposite sides of the taco shells with the spatulas and continue frying until the shape holds on its own…
Carefully lift the finished taco shells out of the oil, let them drain briefly and then let them cool completely on kitchen paper. Have fun imitating!
