A cocktail sauce is often served as an appetizer sauce for cold meat or fish. But even at a leisurely barbecue cocktail sauce is a must have. The base of the cocktail sauce is made of mayonnaise and is individually prepared with different spices and ingredients according to taste.
In today’s post I will show you how to make your own cocktail sauce with tomato ketchup, orange juice and a dash of brandy. Have fun!

Ingredients for about 500 – 600 milliliters of cocktail sauce:
- 2 eggs
- 250 milliliters of vegetable oil
- 150 grams of tomato ketchup
- 100 grams of yoghurt
- 50 grams of crème fraîche
- ½ lemon
- ½ orange
- 1 tablespoon of cremed horseradish
- 1 teaspoon of mustard
- A dash of brandy
- Salt & pepper
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Bowl
- Whisk
- Lemon juicer
- Grater
Instructions for the homemade cocktail sauce:
Separate eggs into yolks and whites. Squeeze the lemon with a citrus press. Place the egg yolks in a mixing bowl along with a teaspoon of mustard, lemon juice and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly with a whisk for about 1 minute, then add a small sip of plant oil and stir until the oil is completely incorporated.
Then add a little more oil and stir into the egg yolk with a whisk. Repeat the whole thing until all the oil has been stirred in and the mayonnaise has a relatively firm but still thick consistency. Then add 150 grams of ketchup, 100 grams of natural yogurt, 50 grams of crème fraîche & 1 tablespoon of horseradish cream, also pour in a good sip of brandy and finally add the zest and the juice of ½ organic orange.
Stir everything with a whisk so that all the ingredients can be distributed evenly and then serve in dip bowls if necessary. Have fun imitating!
