Ingredients for 6 – 8 Homemade Bread Dumplings:
- 4 rolls (from previous day)
- 2 eggs
- 150 milliliters milk
- 1 onion
- ½ bunch of fresh parsley
- ½ teaspoon of nutmeg
- Clarified Butter
- Salt & pepper
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Small pan to lightly sautée the onions
- High vessel to whisk up the egg mixture
- Mixing bowl
- Large pot
- Ladle
Instructions for the Homemade Bread Dumplings:
Peel and finely chop the onion. Heat a pan with a tablespoon of clarified butter & as soon as the lard is hot enough add the finely chopped onion & sweat over medium heat for 2 – 3 minutes until translucent, stirring occasionally & then remove from the heat and set aside.
Cut the buns into cubes. Finely chop the parsley. Put 2 eggs, a good pinch of salt, a good pinch of freshly ground pepper & ½ teaspoon nutmeg in a tall container & whisk together. Now put the bun cubes together with the cooled onions in a mixing bowl, also add the beaten egg, 150 milliliters of milk and the finely chopped parsley.
Knead all ingredients with your hands for about 2 – 3 minutes until all ingredients are evenly distributed & the dumpling dough is easy to form. Then form 6 – 8 dumplings of the same size with your hands. Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil, then reduce the heat so that the water is only slightly simmering & leave the formed dumplings to simmer for about 20 minutes.
Lift the finished dumplings out of the water with a ladle & then serve with venison goulash, for example . Have fun cooking!
