Macaroni & Cheese or in short form Mac & Cheese is a pasta dish widely spread in North America & the UK. Macaroni are mixed with a cheese sauce and then baked in the oven.
There are a variety of different recipes for the sauce and the types of cheese used. In today’s post I will show you a simple and easy recipe with grated cheddar & grated alpine cheese. Have fun cooking 😉

Ingredients for 2 – 3 servings:
- 250 grams cavatelli or corkscrew pasta
- 500 milliliters milk
- 150 grams grated cheddar cheese
- 100 grams alpine or mountain cheese
- 30 grams butter
- 30 grams flour
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt & pepper/span>
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Large pot to cook the pasta
- Saucepan for the cheese sauce
- Baking dish
Bring to a boil a large pot of salted water, add 250 grams cavatelli or corkscrew pasta & cook for about 7 – 8 minutes or according to package directions. Drain the done pasta over a colander & allow to rest for further use. Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat).
…for the cheese sauce:
Give 30 grams butter into a saucepan & allow to melt over medium heat. Once the butter is completely melted & starts to foam add 30 grams flour & whisk together until well combined.
Next, pour in 150 milliliters milk & stir together with a whisk until free of flour lumps, then pour in the remaining 350 milliliters milk & stir together.
Season the sauce with 1 teaspoon mustard, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg & a good pinch of salt & pepper, then bring to a boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.
Allow to simmer for about 2 – 3 minutes until the sauce thickens noticeable while stirring constantly with a whisk. Then remove the saucepan from heat & add the grated cheddar & alpine cheese as well as 2 tablespoons of sour cream & allow the cheese to melt in the hot sauce.
…for the Mac & Cheese Dish:
Spread the cavatelli pasta into a suitable baking dish & pour the cheese sauce over them, so that the noodles are covered completely. Bake the Mac & Cheese for about 20 – 25 minutes in the preheated oven until the surface is golden brown & crispy.
Get the done Mac & Cheese out of the oven & serve on plates.
