In addition to potato pancakes, French fries and sausages always a stall with yummy smelling mushrooms can be found on almost every Christmas market or larger festival. The mushrooms are sautéed and then served along with a garlic dip.
In today’s post I will show you how to cook these tasty fried mushrooms with garlic sauce at home. I wish you lots of fun cooking 😉

Ingredients for 2 servings:
…for the garlic sauce:
- 1 cup crème fraîche
- 1 heaping tablespoon yogurt
- 1 – 2 clove(s) of garlic
- ¼ lemon
- ¼ bunch fresh parsley
- Salt & pepper
…for the fried mushrooms:
- 500 grams brown mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika powder
- 1 – 2 sprigs of rosemary, thyme & oregano
- Salt & pepper
- Oil for frying
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Large pan for the mushrooms
Instructions:
…for the garlic sauce:
Finely chop parsley & in a small bowl combine along with 1 cup crème fraîche, 1 heaping tablespoon yogurt, 1 – 2 pressed clove(s) garlic, juice of ¼ lemon & a good pinch of salt & pepper, then set aside until serving.
…for the mushrooms:
Pluck thyme, rosemary & oregano leaves from the stems against their growth direction, then finely chop and put aside. Clean mushrooms and if necessary halve or quarter them.
Next, heat up a large pan adding a good dash of oil and sauté the mushrooms for 3 – 4 minutes over high heat until brown all around. As soon as the mushrooms start to lose water, add the finely chopped herbs, 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika powder and a good pinch of salt & pepper. Then give everything a last good stir or toss until all the spices & herbs are evenly distributed.
Afterwards serve the fried mushrooms along with the garlic sauce.

This one knocks it out of the park. It’s as I remember from the scores of festivals I attended while living in Wurzburg and Schweinfurt in the early 1990s.
