Instructions:
…for the Hot Dog buns:
Either buy the hot dog buns in the supermarket or bake them with the following video tutorial from my Youtube channel (English subtitles available):
…for the sweet relish:
Halve the cucumber lengthwise & deseed with a spoon, then cut into fine cubes. Also cut the pepper, red onion and celeriac into fine cubes. Next, heat up a small pot or saucepan over medium heat adding 125 grams of sugar, 100 milliliters cider vinegar & 1 heaping teaspoon of grainy mustard.
Stir together sugar, vinegar & mustard using a whisk & bring to a boil. Once the mixture starts simmering stop stirring & add the finely chopped vegetables, afterwards allow to simmer over low to medium heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
After about 20 minutes pull the pot from heat & puree the mixture with a blender for a few seconds just to slightly thicken the remaining liquid (the relish should be still lumpy), then set aside to cool down.
…for the coleslaw:
Cut the cabbage into fine strips. Peel carrots & coarsely shred them using a grater. Give cabbage & carrots to a mixing bowl & sprinkle with a teaspoon each of salt & sugar, then use your hands to mix & thoroughly knead until the cabbage significantly lose water.
Next add 150 grams yogurt, a good dash white wine vinegar, a dash olive oil & a generous pinch of pepper & mix until all ingredients are well combined, then set aside until serving.
…for the Hot Dogs:
Place the sausages in a large pot, cover them with water & heat up, but do not bring the water to a boil. Allow the sausages to warm up for about 2 – 3 minutes within the hot water.
Halve the hot dog buns, but do not cut them through, then top the bun with a good portion coleslaw, a sausage, about 2 tablespoons sweet relish & fried onions to taste.
I wish you lots of fun cooking 😉
