One of the most famous dishes in Chinese cuisine is pork in a sweet and sour sauce. Many recipes use pineapple for this dish or recipe. Since pineapple doesn’t go down so well in my family, I’ll show you a recipe with orange juice instead.
The sauce for the sweet and sour pork is mixed and then only briefly boiled up. As an alternative to the pork, you can also prepare the whole thing with chicken. Have fun cooking!

…for Sweet & Sour Pork:
For the sauce, peel a small piece of ginger and 1 – 2 cloves of garlic & grate finely with a grater, then place in a mixing bowl. Add 100 milliliters of orange juice, 100 grams of sugar, 75 milliliters of apple cider vinegar, 50 milliliters of soy sauce & 2 – 3 tablespoons of ketchup & mix everything with a whisk until all the ingredients are well combined.
First cut the pork loin into finger-thick slices and then into evenly thick cubes. Wash, deseed and cut the peppers into bite-sized pieces. Peel onion & cut into strips. Finely chop the parsley or cilantro for the garnish. Mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with a sip of cold water until smooth & set aside.
Next, heat a large pan with a good dash of oil, add the meat to the hot pan & sear over medium to high heat for 3 – 4 minutes, season with salt & pepper & turn once. Lift the meat out of the pan and set aside.
Then put the pepper pieces & onion strips in the pan (if necessary, add some more oil) & sauté for 4 – 5 minutes over medium heat, turning occasionally. Then pour in the prepared sauce, bring to the boil once & then pour in the smoothened cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce while stirring.
Finally, put the seared meat back into the pan, heat through briefly, but do not let it overcook, don’t let the meat get too dry. Spread the finished sweet and sour pork on plates & serve together with cooked rice. Finally, garnish with chopped parsley or coriander. Bon appetit & have fun cooking!
