Homemade German Coleslaw

Ingredients for 1 salad bowl full of coleslaw:

  • 1 head white cabbage
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 cup (about 200ml) sugar
  • 1 cup (about 200ml) oil
  • 1 cup (about 200ml) white wine vinegar
  • Mustard
  • Salt & pepper

Kitchen helper:

  • Salad bowl

Instructions…

…preparations:

Peel the onion and cut into fine strips. Wash the peppers, remove the seeds and also cut them into fine strips. Remove the outer leaves from the white cabbage, halve the white cabbage and cut out the stalk. Then cut both halves of white cabbage into thin strips. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.

…for the vinegar and oil broth:

Heat a pot and stir together 1 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of oil, 1 cup of sugar, a pinch of salt and a heaped tablespoon of mustard and bring to the boil. As soon as the vinegar-oil mixture boils, remove the pot from the heat and stir briefly again.

…or coleslaw:

Pour the vinegar and oil stock while it is still hot over the white cabbage strips, stir everything well and then let it sit in the fridge for at least 1 day. The next day, season with salt & pepper. Have fun cooking!
