Our Recipe rating:
Ingredients for about 6 – 8 candied apples:
- 6 – 8 small or medium sized apples
- 350 grams sugar
- 150 grams glucose
- 100 milliliters water
- 1 small tube red food coloring
- Poppy seeds, coconut flakes & brown sugar for garnishing
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- 6 – 8 stable skewers to handle the apples
- Small pot or saucepan for the sugar syrup
- Whisk
- Candy thermometer
- Baking tray + parchment paper
- 3 bowls
Instructions:
…preparations:
Remove the apple stalks & instead carefully insert a stable skewer (for example wooden shashlik skewers) or plastic stalk into each apple. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Also prepare a bowl filled with poppy seeds, another bowl with coconut flakes & a third bowl filled with brown sugar for garnishing the candied apples.
…for the sugar syrup:
In a small pot or saucepan combine 350 grams sugar, 150 grams glucose, 100 milliliters water & a small tube red food coloring. Heat up all ingredients over medium heat & stir together with a whisk until the sugar has completely dissolved & the syrup starts to simmer.
Once the sugar syrup starts to simmer stop stirring & allow to cook at a rapid boil for about 5 – 6 minutes. From time to time check the sugar’s temperature with a candy thermometer & once the syrup reaches a temperature of 150°C pull the pot from heat.
Take the apples by the stalks/skewers, carefully hold the pot a bit angular & then dip or turn the apples several times into the hot syrup.
Allow the excess syrup to drip off, place the apples on the prepared baking tray & shortly after candying decorate the apples with poppy seeds, coconut flakes or brown sugar.
Allow the done apples to harden completely & then serve. I wish you lots of fun baking 😉
