Chicken Kebab or “Şiş Tavuk” are Turkish marinated chicken skewers, the marinade consists of yoghurt, tomato paste, olive oil & spices.
As a side dish to the chicken skewers we serve a quick salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions & parsley. Have fun cooking!

- 2 chicken breasts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 heaping tablespoon yogurt
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- A teaspoon each of sweet paprika powder, ground coriander, cumin & sumac
- Oil for frying
- Salt & pepper
…for salad:
- 3 – 4 tomatoes
- ½ cucumber
- ½ red onion
- 1 lemon
- 1 handful fresh parsley
- Olive oil
- Salt & pepper
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Mixing bowl for salad
- Mixing bowl for marinade
- Whisk
- Lemon juicer
- 4 skewers
- Frying pan for chicken
Instructions:
…preparations for chicken:
Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized cubes with a knife. For the marinade, whisk together 1 tablespoon yoghurt, 1 tablespoon tomato paste, 2 – 3 tablespoons of olive oil & a teaspoon each of paprika powder (sweet), cumin, ground coriander and sumac in a mixing bowl. Season the marinade with a pinch of salt & pepper.
Add the diced chicken to the marinade, stir together well and then marinade the chicken for at least 4 hours in the fridge. Put the meat on 4 metal skewers after marinating time.
…for salad:
Dice the tomatoes roughly. Cut the cucumber lengthwise and also cut into cubes. Peel onion & cut into thin strips. Finely chop the parsley. Squeeze a lemon with a lemon juicer.
Put the vegetables in a bowl, add the lemon juice and a dash of olive oil and season everything with a pinch of salt & pepper. Stir the salad well and let it stand until serving.
…for chicken skewers:
Heat up a large grill pan adding a dash oil, place the chicken skewers side by side into the pan & fry for about 6 – 7 minutes until brown & crispy turning them once.
Remove the finished chicken skewers from the pan and serve along with the salad, some flatbread & garlic yoghurt. Have fun cooking!
