Rice pudding is a dessert made from round-grain rice & cooked in milk over low to medium heat. After cooking the rice pudding has a thick & creamy consistency, in which the individual grains of rice are still visible.
In today’s post, I’ll show you a recipe for rice pudding with hot cherries, but other toppings such as cinnamon & sugar are in wide use. Have fun cooking!

Ingredients for 2 servings:
…for hot cherries:
- 1 small jar cherries (about 200 grams without cherry juice)
- 1 sachet bourbon vanilla sugar
- 1 heaping teaspoon cornstarch
…for rice pudding:
- 500 milliliters milk
- 100 round-grain rice
- 25 grams butter
- 25 grams sugar
- 1 sachet bourbon vanilla sugar
- A pinch of salt
Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:
- Small pot for the cherries
- Pot or pan for the rice pudding
- Spatula
Instructions:
…for hot cherries:
Put cherries along with cherry juice in a small saucepan. Next add a sachet bourbon vanilla sugar & 1 heaping teaspoon cornstarch, mix together all ingredients & heat up over medium heat. Bring the cherries to a boil and simmer for 1 – 2 minutes, then remove from heat & set aside until serving.
…for the rice pudding:
In a second saucepan combine 500 milliliters milk along with 25 grams sugar, 25 grams butter, 1 sachet bourbon vanilla sugar & a pinch of salt & heat up over low to medium heat until the milk starts to simmer.
Once the milk simmers, add 100 grams round-grain rice & give everything a good stir. Allow the rice pudding to simmer gently over low to medium for about 20 – 25 minutes until a thick & creamy consistency. Stir the rice pudding over and over so nothing can burn the pot bottom.
Remove the done rice pudding from heat & serve along with the hot cherries! I wish you lots of fun cooking 😉
