A baguette or bar of white bread is an oblong, crispy white bread. Baguettes are the perfect sider to hearty meals, on a buffet or for a cozy barbecue.

In today’s post, I’ll show you a recipe for a fluffy baguette with cheese. The baguettes are shaped as usual, then topped with cheese and baked until golden brown. Have fun baking!

Ingredients for 2 baguette breads:

  • 325 grams flour
  • 200 milliliters lukewarm water
  • 6 slices cheese (eg. Gouda cheese)
  • ¼ cube fresh yeast (about 10 grams)
  • A teaspoon each of salt & sugar

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • Tall container for yeast water mixture
  • Whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixer/Kitchen machine
  • Rolling pin
  • Kitchen towel
  • Baking sheet + baking paper

…for the dough:

Line a baking sheet with baking paper & set aside. Crumble ¼ cube fresh yeast (about 10 grams) into a tall container, add 1 teaspoon sugar, & 200 milliliters lukewarm water & stir together with a whisk or fork until yeast & sugar have completely dissolved.

Next, combine yeast-water mixture along with 325 grams flour & 1 teaspoon salt in a mixing bowl & knead with a food processor or a mixer with dough hook for about 4 – 5 minutes to a smooth but still sticky dough.




…for baguettes:

Halve the dough once and then roll it out on a lightly floured work surface into long dough sheets (approximately the length of the baking sheet). Roll up the dough sheets from the long side to baguettes and place them side by side on the prepared baking tray. Cover the baguettes with a kitchen towel & allow them to rest for 45 – 60 minutes in a warm place.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat) in good time. Use a sharp knife to cut the baguettes 2 – 3 times at an angle after resting time and then top each baguette with 3 slices of cheese. Bake the baguettes in a preheated oven for about 18 – 20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.




Remove the done baguettes from the oven, allow to cool on a grid and then serve still warm. Have fun baking!
