I spent the last 2 weeks in Sweden with my family. There we tried many new & interesting local specialties, including a sticky chocolate cake called “Kladdkaka”.

We liked the cake so much that I had to bake it at home. The preparation is super easy, the ingredients are quickly mixed together & then the cake can be baked in the oven for 10 minutes. Have fun baking!

Swedish Chocolate Mud Cake “Kladdkaka”

Ingredients for a 20cm diameter springform pan:

  • 125 Gramm Puderzucker
  • 100 Gramm geschmolzene Butter
  • 100 Gramm Mehl
  • 50 Gramm Backkakao
  • 2 Eier
  • 1 Päckchen Vanillezucker
  • Eine Prise Salz
  • Geschlagene Sahne oder Vanilleeis zum Servieren

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • 20cm diameter cake ring or springform pan
  • Baking sheet + baking paper

Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat). Line a 20cm diameter cake ring or a springform pan with baking paper. Melt 100 grams of butter on the stove or in the microwave & set aside. Put 125 grams of powdered sugar, 2 eggs & 1 sachet of vanilla sugar in a mixing bowl & stir together with a whisk until the sugar has dissolved completely.

Next, add 100 grams of flour, 50 grams of baking cocoa, the melted butter & a pinch of salt, mix everything until you got a sticky dough, transfer to the sprigform pan & smooth down as best as possible. Bake the chocolate cake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until the cake is crispy on the outside and still soft and sticky inside.




Take the done cake out of the oven after the baking time, allow to cool down briefly & then cut into pieces & serve with a little whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Have fun baking!

Tip: After about 15 minutes, the cake is completely baked at 200°C (top/bottom heat).
