Ground meat can be used in many ways, but meatballs are by far the most popular form of cooking ground meat. About a year ago I showed you a recipe for meatballs “Jäger Art”, in which the meatballs were prepared on the stove & cooked together with the sauce.
In today’s post, I’ll show you a variant for meatballs from the oven. That’s right, the meatballs are not prepared in the pan, but simply on the baking sheet in the oven. There is also a creamy mushroom sauce. Have fun cooking!

Instructions:
…for oven baked meatballs with creamy mushroom sauce
Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat) in good time. Peel off and finely chop 1 large onion, then put the onion along with 750 grams of ground meat, 2 eggs, 50 grams breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon mustard, 1 teaspoon sweet paprika powder & a good pinch of salt and pepper in a mixing bowl & knead with your hands until everything is well mixed & combined.
Then shape 8 meatballs of roughly the same size from the meat dough, place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper at a distance from each other & drizzle all meatballs with a little oil, then put them in the preheated oven for 8 – 10 minutes.
Take the meatballs out of the oven after 8 – 10 minutes, turn all meatballs once & then put them back in the oven for another 8 – 10 minutes & bake until golden brown & crispy.
Meanwhile, for the sauce, put 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, 400 milliliters of vegetable stock & 200 milliliters of cream in a tall container & stir until smooth with a whisk, then set aside until further use. Next, peel off and finely chop 1 large onion. Clean 500 grams of mushrooms & cut into slices.
Next, heat up a pan with a dash of oil, add the mushroom slices & onions to the pan & fry over medium heat with occasional stirring for 4 – 5 minutes. Then deglaze the mushrooms with a small dash (about 75 milliliters) of white wine, allow the wine to boil down almost completely & then pour in the prepared cream sauce.
Season the mushroom cream sauce with a good pinch of salt and pepper, then bring to a boil while stirring occasionally & allow to simmer over low to medium heat until the sauce has reached the desired consistency.
Dish up the done oven meatballs together with the mushroom cream sauce on plates and serve with for example mashed potatoes as a side dish. Have fun cooking!
