Greek cuisine is one of my favorite cuisines, especially in summer. In today’s post, I’ll show you a Greek-based recipe, this time a veggie hamburger or a sandwich recipe with feta cheese.
The patty consists of breaded feta cheese (alternatively shepherd’s cheese) instead of meat, with a quick tzatziki sauce and vegetables. Then the whole thing is served in a bun or bread roll. Have fun cooking at home!

Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 400 grams of feta cheese or herder cheese
- 4 bread rolls or burger buns (store bought or homemade)
- 200 Gramm sour cream
- 100 grams breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 beef tomato
- 1 red onion
- ¼ cucumber
- ½ head iceberg lettuce
- 1 – 2 cloves garlic
- 1 heaping teaspoon sweet paprika powder
- Olive oil for tzatziki sauce
- Salt & pepper
- Oil for frying
- Lemon for serving
- 2 plates or bowls for breading
- Large frying pan
- Small bowl for tzatziki sauce
- Garlic press
…for Greek burger with breaded feta:
Cut the tomato & cucumber into slices. Peel off red onion & cut into fine rings. Cut the iceberg lettuce into thin strips. For the tzatziki sauce, stir together 200 grams of sour cream with 1 – 2 pressed garlic cloves, a dash of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. Cut lemon into wedges & set aside until serving.
Cut the feta cheese or herder cheese into 4 equal sized slices with a knife. Prepare 2 plates for the “breading line”, one with beaten egg & the other with breadcrumbs. Season the breadcrumbs with 1 heaping teaspoon of paprika powder & mix well.
Then the Feta slices can be breaded, for this first pull the Feta slices one after the other through the whisked egg, then turn in breadcrumbs (press the breadcrumbs a little bit), pull through the egg again & turn in breadcrumbs a second time. Repeat for the rest of the feta cheese.
Next, heat up a large pan with plenty of oil (the bottom of the pan should be completely covered with oil), add the breaded feta cheese to the pan & fry until golden brown for 2 – 3 minutes on each side over medium heat, turning once carefully. Carefully lift the done feta cheese out of the pan, drain briefly on kitchen paper and then we are ready to dish up.
Spread the underside of the bread rolls with tzatziki sauce, then top with iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, cucumber, onions & breaded feta cheese. Drizzle the feta cheese with a little lemon juice if you like & serve with more tzatziki sauce and the top half of the bun. Have fun cooking at home!
