After I have already shown you some curry recipes (e.g. the quick & simple chicken curry with mango), in today’s post I will show you a super simple & quick recipe for a delicious prawn curry with rice.

The curry consists of prawns in a creamy coconut milk sauce & chopped tomatoes, the prawn curry is only seasoned with curry and paprika powder. Have fun cooking!

Simple Prawn Curry with Rice

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 grams prawns (peeled & deveined)
  • 250 grams rice
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 small piece ginger
  • A heaping teaspoon curry powder
  • A heaping teaspoon sweet paprika powder
  • Salt, pepper, sugar & chili powder to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Cilantro for garnishing
  • 1 lemon or lime

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • Small pot or saucepan for rice
  • Large pan or wok for prawn curry



Cook the rice in plenty of salted water according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside until serving. Peel 1 large onion and chop finely. Peel the garlic and chop finely. Peel and finely chop ginger. Cut the lemon into wedges. Chop the cilantro and set aside.

…for simple prawn curry:

Heat up a large pan or wok with a good dash of oil, add the onions, garlic and ginger to the pan & sweat until translucent for 2 – 3 minutes, turning occasionally. Next, add the prawns and 1 heaping teaspoon of curry powder as well as sweet paprika powder and roast for approx. 1 minute while stirring.

Now add 1 can of coconut milk & 1 can of chopped tomatoes, stir everything well and then simmer gently for a few minutes over low heat until the prawns are cooked, stirring occasionally.

Finally, season the prawn curry with salt, pepper, sugar & possibly chilli powder, pull it off the stove & then serve garnished with a little finely chopped cilantro and a few lemon wedges. Cooked rice or Indian Naan bread is suitable as a side dish. Have fun cooking!
