In today’s post I’ll show you a super simple & delicious recipe for a potato gratin or a potato bake with small Nuremberg sausages.

The preparation is super easy and quick, all the ingredients are briefly cooked together in the pan and then the oven does the rest and gives the potato bake a delicious cheese crust. Have fun cooking!

Simple Potato Bake with Sausages

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1,25 kilogram of potatoes (mainly waxy)
  • 400 grams small Nuremberg sausages (or other sausages)
  • 300 milliliters milk
  • 200 milliliters cream
  • 200 grams grated Gouda cheese
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 – 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt & pepper
  • Parsley for garnish

Required kitchen gadgets, helper & preparations:

  • Large pan or pot
  • Suitable baking dish

Peel potatoes and cut into bite-sized pieces. Peel the onion and cut it into strips. Peel and chop the garlic as well. Halve the Nuremberg sausages or cut the bratwursts into slices. Preheat the oven in good time to 200°C (top/bottom heat) or 180°C (fan oven).

Next, heat a large pan with a splash of oil, add the sausages, onions & garlic to the pan & fry for 3 – 4 minutes over medium heat, turning occasionally. Then add the potatoes, also add 300 milliliters of milk, 200 milliliters of cream, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika powder and a very good pinch of salt and pepper.

Bring the contents of the pan to the boil and then simmer over medium heat for 5 – 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Next, pour the hot potato-sausage mixture into a large, suitable baking dish, distribute it evenly and sprinkle everything with 200 grams of grated Gouda (or other grated cheese).

Put the potato casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes until the potatoes are cooked through and the cheese has taken on a golden brown color. Take the finished potato bake with sausages out of the oven, spread it on plates and serve garnished with chopped parsley. Have fun cooking!
